CAMP LOCATION: Located on Guadalupe River's beautiful South Fork, 85 miles northwest of San Antonio in the Texas Hill Country. We are 2,000 feet above sea level, so our nights are cool. Our nearest town of size is Kerrville, Texas

CAMP FACILITIES: When "The Heart" was first built, it was a resort hotel, so all our "tepees" have central air-conditioning. Campers under 12 live in the original hotel, 4-5 girls per room with a counselor, indoor plumbing. Older girls live in dormitory-style "tepees" with 10-12 girls and 2-3 counselors per room, indoor plumbing. All bunk beds are twin size.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Heart O' the Hills has been a summer camp for girls since 1953. Director Jane Ragsdale was a camper herself who always wanted to run a camp. She became program director when she was 21, and after 12 summers in that role, became director. 2015 was her 50th consecutive summer to be at camp in some capacity.

We offer two- and four-week sessions. All campers are asked to take Red Cross swim lessons, field sports and horseback riding. There is a list of some 50 electives that campers can choose from to round out their schedules, so there is something for everyone--from the most athletic to the most creative. The emphasis is on learning new skills in a fun environment.

New campers draw from a hat to determine tribe affiliation. The friendly competitive spirit of the tribes are infectious!

Campers leave their electronics at home and learn to live and relate to each other the old fashioned way.

Counselors arrive a minimum of one week before campers to take skills certification courses and learn all about how The Heart operates.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Heart LITes are too old to be campers but haven't had a year of college, so don't qualify to be counselors. They may apply to come as volunteers.

Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, and Taylor Swift are just a few of the big names to come from here. Before you even get the chance to explore sights like the Country Music Hall of Fame and The Johnny Cash Museum, you'll be treated to live music right at the airport. Downtown "Music City," the home of country and western, is full of bars and clubs where you'll find live music on almost any night. Memphis isKnown as both the "Home of the Blues" and the "Birthplace of Rock n' Roll", Memphis is home to Graceland (Elvis' mansion) and the famous Stax Museum of American Soul (honoring the label that launched the careers of Otis Redding and Isaac Hayes). Memphis is the home of the blues and a key center for gospel and soul music. It was here in the early 1950s that rock'n'roll was born. Since the early 20th century, the Beale Street neighborhood has been a center of African-American clubs and bars. The "Father of the Blues" W.C. Havana has a hugely diverse music scene, reflecting the generations of migrants and slaves brought here, each with their own musical culture. African rhythms and percussion have been molded with Spanish guitars and traditions to form genres like mambo, son Cubano, charanga, Cuban jazz, habanera, and cha-cha-cha. You'll find music in the bars and cafés across Havana, especially in the Old Town of Havana.

Out tour includes visiting and performing at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, tour the University of Miami Frost School of Music, participate in a music lesson workshop at the music school and enjoy a live professional music performance, go on a behind the scenes tour at Creative Artists Agency (CAA), participate in an Afro-Cuban dance workshop, enjoy dinner at Larios on the Beach, Gloria and Emilio Estefan's restaurant, explore South Beach and explore Wynwood - street performance opportunity. CAMP LOCATION: Camp Olympia is located on beautiful Lake Livingston in the piney woods of East Texas of Trinity, Texas. Trinity is about 100 miles north of Houston, 200 miles south of Dallas-Ft. Worth area, and 200 miles east of Austin. Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is only 90 miles from camp, which makes the trip to Camp Olympia convenient for campers that are from other areas of Texas, out-of-state and out-of-country!

CAMP FACILITIES: Camp Olympia has outstanding facilities, including a swimming pool, challenge course, as well as fields and courts for many activities. While most of the activities take place on a 101-acre location, camp has access to hundreds of additional acres of private land. We improve the facility each year with additions and enhancements so campers are always in for a treat when they return. Additions within the last 5 years include our new climbing wall at our swimming pool, new lakeside Olympiatheater that is perfect for Talent Show, New Cluster of Cabins (our largest cluster of cabins ever!), 2-Person Zip Line at the Challenge Course, a Water Balloon Battle Station at the pool, and Aqua Inflatables for both the pool and waterfront! Camp just keeps getting better and better!!!

While Olympia is located on the breezy shores of Lake Livingston, it does get warm in Texas during the summer. Unlike most of the other camps in Texas, all of the cabins, bathrooms, our dining hall, and many of the enclosed areas are air conditioned. Air conditioned cabins make sleeping at night much more comfortable!

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Olympia has gone above and beyond many private camps to demonstrate our commitment to safety by complying with the accreditation standards of the American Camping Association (ACA). To earn accreditation, we comply with over 200 health, safety, and program quality standards. During our latest accreditation visit, we made a perfect score complying with all 200+ standards.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: The Camp Olympia Leadership Program (CLP) is the pinnacle of an Olympia camper’s tenure at camp and a once-in-a-lifetime experience! It is a program for prior Camp Olympia campers who are sixteen years of age by July 1.

The CLP Program offers a unique summer camp adventure as it combines a Camp Olympia experience in Texas with a week-long Colorado adventure, including: leadership training, lifeguard and first aid training and certification, rock-climbing, team ropes course and initiatives, whitewater rafting, and climbing a mountain together as a team. This special camp program focuses on building leaders, fostering teamwork and improving self-confidence.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: The camp fun at Camp Olympia continues after summer! There are many special events planned throughout the year for kids, teens, and parents too! Whether you are interested in learning more about Camp Olympia or have been a part of the Camp Olympia family during its 50+ year history, we encourage you to join us at one or more of our events throughout the year. We have parties, family camps, alumni reunions, and so much more!
